We were finally in New Zealand after 11 hr flight from Tokyo!! We started from Christchurch round trip of south Island. First day, we stopped at the lake Tekapo. Weather was great! We enjoyed changing colors of mountains and the lake with times going. Especially, dawn is great and at Mtnighttime, there are so many stars I can’t count. Milky way and Southern Cross are gorgeous and beautiful.
Next day, we were leaving for Mt. Cook. Cloudy sky and strong wind! But when we arrived at Mt.Cook, mysterious mountain peaks are covered with clouds. We have walking nice paths around Mt.Cook village. Strong winds with rains and snow made us shaking with cold.
This was definitely the most scenic part of New Zealand I had seen to date. You go through a tunnel on the road and wow!!!! When you come out the other side it is just superb. The valley in front was just stunning and the sheer drop into the valley was a little scary to drive. We went on a boat cruise too for 2.5hours and well it was just amazing and although the sun was shinning! Lots of water falls, many mountain peaks with snow, rainbows and rainbows. The views were so spectacular I cannot well describe.
Then we continued to move to south and at last the Land’s end (Bluff). So strong winds are blowing and ocean waves were so ranging. We are taucht there is nice trail behinds the Motel. So we are climbing the trail, and found the big rain forest! It is hard to imagine there is such a forest with ferny bush and tall trees.
We are driving to Curio bay, Dunedin, and back to Christchurch.
There are many nice wineries along the highway, so we have dropped in them to get Pinot Noir and Riesling. After driving and sight seeing, we are tired but enjoyed those wines and cheese.
People in NZ are very kind and nice, and we used four B&Bs which are very clear and nice to stay.
